When using a BskyB DigiBox in a SMATV application it is the case that from time to time the DigiBox will go into standby mode; typically after an over the air update; a power supply failure; or other interruption to the received signal.
Once in standby mode an Engineer must physically enter the Headend and reset the DigiBox. This plus the associated downtime is a cost. Indeed, in certain circumstances a Service Visit may be required.
The usual solution is to install a Professional IRD (Integrated Receiver Decoder), however, in many applications this can be a sledge hammer to crack a walnut, with costs in excess of £2,000 per channel.
The CTS solution is to install the SMATV Master Controller (SMC). This device will reset up to 5No DigiBoxes, with costs in the region of £36 per channel.
The DigiBox, having gone into standby mode will be reset to the original channel set up programmed into the SMC. Thus the DigiBox will be automatically reset, and downtime per channel amounts to seconds.
An interruption to the power supply will clearly cause the DigiBox to go into standby mode once power supply has been restored. With power supply restored to the SMC as well, the SMC device will then rest the DigiBoxes as described above.
Having installed this low cost, and very effective solution from CTS; DigiBox reset issues will become virtually invisible. Furthermore, the SMC device has BskyB approval, further enhancing its value.
